The editorial committee is now composed of:
The initial pre-editing and formatting of papers for pre-publication will be done jointly by the Chief and Assistant Editors. They are then sent to CIPAV where they are posted on the Homepage of LRRD for assessment by the members of the editorial committee. Readers of the journal and authors are also invited to comment on the pre-publication articles as these are posted on the Web. The Homepage of LRRD is:
An advisory committee will be formed from interested collaborators. This committee could meet once yearly by "tele-conferencing" to discuss general strategy. It is also expected that members will assist in promoting the journal in their respective spheres of influence. Further details will be presented in the next issue of LRRD.
The Chief Editor coordinates technical editing from Vietnam (T R Preston, Finca Ecologica, College of Agriculture and Forestry, National University of Ho Chi Minh city) with the help of the Assistant Editor (Rene Sansoucy) and other members of the Editorial Committee.
Papers should be sent by E-mail or on diskette to the Chief Editor (email@example.com). If acknowledgement is not received within one week (in the case of E-mail) then authors should send a reminder to the Chief Editor with details of the file names and dates sent. The papers can be written with the aid of any of the principal word processing software programs and if sent as e-mail should be as "compressed and UUENCODED" files (or as compressed "Attachments" if the mailer software supports this option). Further details are given in "notes for authors".
Papers are edited for uniformity of style and put into "html" format for immediate posting as a "pre-publication" issue on the LRRD Homepage on the World Wide Web. Members of the editorial committee, as well as the authors, have the opportunity to revise and comment on the papers. Any necessary revisions are incorporated in the final version of each number which is closed when 10 papers have been received, posted on the Internet and approved. They are then edited for the definitive version and converted into Acrobat "pdf" format for posting on the Web sites of CIPAV and the Oxford Forestry Institute, UK. An updated version of the "html" format will also be made at this time.
In this way the basic information in the articles is
immediately available to interested readers who can enter into an
interactive dialogue with authors, editors and referees if they
so wish. It is believed that this "transparency" is an
improvement on the traditional system of using
"anonymous" referees who are not always completely
objective and impartial, especially when the research emanates
from developing countries.
Responsibility for posting the pre-publication papers, in HTML format, on the Internet Home Page of LRRD and later the edited final PDF version, will be with CIPAV (Nick Waltham and Hector Osorio)
The principle tools for publishing the journal are now: Corel Office (Word Perfect 7 or 8), Lotus 123, version 5.1 and Harvard Graphics; and Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Therefore these are the preferred formats for receiving papers.
Authors should examine carefully recent papers in the journal and follow the style currently in use. Where possible, please always supply the original spreadsheets and data which were used to produce graphics in the papers, since this allows us to produce a uniform look and maintain the quality of the finished journal. Likewise, if you have tabulated data in your paper, please format it using a table, and not tabs and spaces since tables are very well supported in HTML format. References should be set up with minimum punctuation but maximum detail of the actual citation. Abbreviations of journal titles should not be used.
